The Iseum of the Emerald Flame

What is an Iseum?

“Iseum” is an ancient Greek word for “sanctuary” or “temple” for the Greco-Roman goddess Isis (called Aset by the Egyptians) so it is similar to our modern-day concepts of “coven”, “grove”, “circle” or “church”.

What is the Iseum of the Emerald Flame?

The Iseum of the Emerald Flame is dedicated to the Celtic-Gaulish bear-goddess Artio and her Greco-Roman “sisters” Diana of the Grove and Artemis Limnatis (the Lady of the Lake) and was founded through the Fellowship of Isis.

What is the Emerald Flame?

The Emerald Flame has its origins in Atlantis where the Mystery Tradition was known as the Sisterhood and Brotherhood of the Emerald Fire.  After the destruction of Atlantis, those that survived dispersed and found homes where they could, including in Egypt where the Mystery School was founded once again at the Temple of Saqqara where students were taught the art of magick, aromatherapy and healing.

The Emerald Flame may be best known for is residence in Europe where priestesses of the Norse Freya and the Celtic Brigit (the Lady of the Lake and the forger of Excalibur) tended to the Sacred Flame.  These practices survived once Christianity came to the land and the priestesses were “replaced” by nuns and are still practiced today.

Who is Artio and what is the Emerald Flame Tradition?

The Emerald Flame Tradition is a Pagan path dedicated to the goddess Artio as her aspect as the Lady of the Lake (Artemis Limnatis) and as Diana of the Grove.

As Artemis Limnatis, She is the Lady of the Lake, the Queen of Avalon (the Isle of Apples).  She is the keeper of the Fruit of Knowledge (the apple), guides you on your Grail Quest and instructs you in the Mysteries of the Three Worlds.

As Diana of the Grove, Artio is s Tree Goddess and She is represented by the Norse-Celtic World Tree of Life (Yggdrasil).  Artio as the Tree of Life is in the Three Worlds: She holds the Grail and the Sword at her trunk (Midworld), her branches reach up to the sky and stars (Upperworld) and her roots reach down to the well-spring (Underworld).  As Diana of the Grove, She is the Mother of All Trees and is surrounded by various sacred trees of the Celtic Ogham.  As the Tree of Life, She also holds the secrets of the Viking Runes, the Fates (the Faery Norns) and the shamanic totem animals.

Who can be a member of the Iseum of the Emerald Flame?

As an Iseum is a hearth of the Goddess, membership is open to all Pagans.  Because of what encompasses the Emerald Flame tradition, those that follow Greek Paganism, Egyptian Paganism, Norse Paganism, Celtic Paganism or Faery Shamanism will find themselves welcome here.  Also, if you feel drawn to the Grail Quest and the mysteries of Avalon, you will find the Iseum of the Emerald Flame to be a home.

Those that wish to become a member of the Iseum of the Emerald Flame must first become a member of the Fellowship of Isis (which can be done through the Iseum of the Emerald Flame) as all who partake in Fellowship of Isis rituals must be member of the FOI in order to do so.

How do I become a member of the Iseum of the Emerald Flame?

Step 1:  Become a member of the Fellowship of Isis.  This can be done through the Iseum of the Emerald Flame or through the Fellowship of Isis headquarters.  If done through FOI-HQ, then please have your membership certificate ready to show to the Iseum of the Emerald Flame founder upon your interview meeting.

Step 2: Schedule your interview meeting with the founder of the Iseum of the Emerald Flame.  This meeting will be in a public and neutral location for the safety and comfort of both parties (NOTE: For prospective members that live outside of the Iseum of the Emerald Flame area, then this interview can be done over the phone).  If both parties feel that the Iseum of the Emerald Flame is a good fit, then the prospective member will be invited to the public meetings.

Step 3:  The prospective member is to attend as many public meetings for the next year-and-a-day.  Afterwards, the prospective member can then schedule another interview meeting with the Iseum of the Emerald Flame Founder to request initiation.

Step 4: If both parties feel that the prospective member is ideal for initiation into the Iseum of the Emerald Flame, then the ritual will be scheduled and prepared for.
